Abstract

The paper focused on the impact of digital democracy on political participation in Nigeria. The paper examined the impact of digital democracy as a new development in the governance system and the attendant behavioural changes arising out of the use of ICT-powered procedures. The paper utilized a qualitative research design, and a descriptive research method was adopted, which necessitated gathering data from books, journals, and other publications on unique practices, public opinions, personal attitudes, and changes in the democratic process of the country in the contemporary period. The paper observed that the process has triggered popular participation and increased sophistication of the government-citizens relationship, political marketing and branding, and youth participation in affairs of the nation. The paper concludes that the process will be strengthened and challenges overcome through consolidated, sufficient political education, cultivation of online transactions, and provision of technological infrastructure, among others, in Nigeria.
