Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study concerning the influence on the microclimate of a public garden in an  average-size city in southeastern Romania. Ten locations were chosen for measurements in the park, with different distribution of vegetation, built areas and surroundings. Air temperature, humidity and wind speed were  measured during a week during summer and a week during winter. The measurements were performed three  times a day. The results show quantitatively, that relevant improvement of the microclimate is reached with a  higher and denser vegetation, but also that the neighboring areas strongly influence the atmospheric parameters,  pointing out the need for an urban green space architectural design made through close cooperation with
environmental specialists, in order to fully achieve the desired potential.
