Abstract

This paper presents a solution for the optimal design of the rotor of axial flux rare earth permanent magnet machine by minimizing the volume of the permanent
magnet. The objective of the optimization is to find the geometric dimensions that lead to a minimum value of the volume of the permanent magnet. The proposed solution uses the FEMM (Finite Element Method Magnetics) software package, and offer several significant benefits: high power density, larger range of frequency in operation, compactness, high torque capability.
